Matric Art Exhibition 2023

On 23 October 2023, we had the privilege of hosting the annual WGHS Matric Art Exhibition’s Opening Evening. This event was a showcase of the exceptional talents of our Grade 12 artists, featuring a diverse collection of original works, including sketches, paintings, sculptures, mixed media creations, and even life-size origami. The event was attended by invited guests, school heads, parents, and teachers, all of whom were captivated by the artistic brilliance on display.  Our Visual Arts Head, Mrs Debby Saporetti, extended a warm welcome to our visitors and shared a heartfelt tribute to her Grade 12 artists. The evening’s guest speaker, Ms Melissa McCarthy, delivered a thought-provoking speech, drawing metaphorical lessons from one of her favorite animated films, Shrek.  The WGHS Matric Art Exhibition was declared open to the public for viewing on 24 and 25 October, providing an opportunity for our staff, learners, and visitors to admire the remarkable artworks on display. We would like to extend our appreciation to everyone involved in the event’s setup and breakdown, especially to our dedicated estates team for their hard work behind the scenes.  We also express our gratitude to the WGHS Occasions Team for their impeccable service, offering canapés and refreshments to our guests.  Thanks also goes to the Music Department and Technical Team for the atmospheric background music and lighting.
