Protea House - WGHS Hostel
In the hostel, learners will develop invaluable personal, social and leadership skills – for life.
We offer weekly boarding only at Wynberg Girls’ High School. Our hostel, Protea House, is situated within the school grounds to ensure that boarders have complete access to all our school facilities and activities. The hostel can house approximately seventy girls from Grade Eight to Grade Twelve.
Rooms
All boarders have single bedrooms, the rooms are quaint, wooden-floored and fully furnished. The atmosphere of the hostel is lively, modern and upbeat, and there is a strong sense of unity and warmth amongst the learners.
Catering Management
Protea House outsources its Catering Management, Cleaning Coordination and Procurement to Feedem, a Professional Food Services Solutions company. Feedem looks at the youth of today providing nutritionally balanced meals daily for the active youth. Feedem have their own appointed dieticians, who assist and analyse menus upon request.
Hostel Staff
The hostel staff includes the superintendent, two house moms, several boarder mistresses, three study teachers, and the kitchen, cleaning and maintenance staff.

The experiences in hostel are skills learnt for life. Learners will develop a significant number of invaluable personal, social and leadership skills.
Supervised study on a daily basis.
All meals are provided from breakfast on Monday to lunch on Friday.
There are supervised outings, socials and fun events organised for,
and by the boarders.
Boarders must be collected by 4pm on a Friday, and dropped off between 4pm - 6pm on a Sunday afternoon or 6:30am - 7:30am on a Monday morning.
Our encourage our boarders to become independent, responsible, and mature young adults.
Hostel Fees
HOSTEL FEES FOR THE YEAR 2025
Kindly be advised of the Hostel Fees for 2025, as approved by the School Governing Body.
Protea House is a WEEKLY boarding facility, and boarders stay from Sunday evening to Friday afternoon. Meals are provided from Monday breakfast to Friday lunch.
Fees: R 73 500 per year (R 18 375 per term, payable in advance at the start of each term).
Hostel fees are payable in advance:
The first term’s fees of R 18 375 are to be deposited by 10 January 2025. Thereafter payment is to be received termly in advance at the start of each term.
In order to assist families, after receipt of the fees for Term 1 (as indicated above), the remaining three terms may be paid monthly in advance, split as follows:
Grades 8-11: Payment may be split over 9 equal monthly installments from 1 February to 1 October 2025: R 6 125 per month. A debit order is the preferred means of payment.
Grade 12: Payment may be split over 8 equal monthly installments from 1 February to 1 September 2025: R 6 890.65 per month. A debit order is the preferred means of payment.
Learners in Grade 12 in 2025 will be expected to pay the full fee regardless of whether they leave the hostel to study at home during the final matric examinations.
Please note that learners will only be accepted into the hostel in 2025 if all school and hostel fees in arrears up to the end of 2024 are fully paid. Should the account not be settled your daughter’s place in the hostel will be allocated to someone else and the outstanding fees will be handed over to our attorneys for collection.
Weekly Boarders must pay the termly hostel fees in advance at the start of each term.
Payments may be made via debit order, EFT, Easy Pay or credit/debit card.
